GateEx is a pro-quality noise gate and downward expander with precision graphic displays and advanced parameter controls.
GateEx's noise gate removes signals below an assignable level, and is perfect for isolating one type of instrument from another, and for removing unwanted residual noise.
GateEx's downward expander allows expansion of dynamic levels by lowering gain level in quiet passages.
Applications
- GateEx can be used as both a noise gate and a downward expander.
- As a noise gate, it's perfect for isolating one type of musical instrument from another, as well as reducing unwanted residual background noise.
- When used as a dowward expander, it can increase the apparent dynamic range of recordings.

A/B/C/D "Snapshots"
Use up to four temporary memory "snapshots" for quickly comparing different settings.
View Controls
These radio buttons set the waveform display mode, which includes options for left channel only, right channel only, or left + right channel.
Threshold Slider
Sets the level at which the noise gate opens or closes. Audio exceeding the threshold causes the gate to open, while audio that falls below the threshold causes the gate to close, and reduce audio level as a result.
Gain Slider
Controls output gain, and allows the output signal level to be adjusted to compensate for level changes that may be introduced by other parts of GateEx's processing.
Output Meters
These high-precision meters show the output level of an audio signal after it has been processed.
Graph Display
Gives a graphic representation of the Threshold, Depth, Hysteresis, and Ratio controls.
Attack Knob
This control sets how quickly the gate opens, when the audio signal level exceeds the threshold level.
Release Knob
Sets how quickly the gate closes, when the audio signal level falls below the threshold level.
Depth Knob
Determines how much the audio signal level is reduced when the noise gate is in the closed position.
Hold Knob
Allows the gate to remain open for a specific amount of time, even when the audio signal level falls below the set threshold, and is useful for preventing gate "chatter" — an artifact caused by the gate opening and closing very quickly.
Hysteresis Knob
Sets a different threshold level to open and close the gate, and is another way to prevent "gate chatter".
Lookahead Knob
Allows GateEx to "look ahead" at the audio signal being processed. This allows the gate to open or close sooner that it would normally, and can be useful in preserving transients/attacks that might be eliminated (or minimized) by the gate opening after they had already occured.
Ratio Knob
Used to set the rate at which signal reduction is applied, when the audio signal exceeds the threshold level.
Compatibility
This professional cross-platform noise gate and downward expander plug-in includes Audio Units, RTAS/AudioSuite, and VST formats, and can be used within most popular professional audio editing hosts on Mac & Windows systems — such as Peak, Digital Performer, GarageBand, Live, Logic, Premiere, Pro Tools, Sonar, Sound Forge, and many others.
